First introduced in 1959, Guild’s all-mahogany M-20 quickly became a favorite for bluesmen and folkies alike, and the current M-120E is a historically accurate reissue of that instrument. The Guild M-120E acoustic-electric guitar could be your ideal songwriting companion. We all want a guitar that you can just "grab n' go". It's got to be small, but it needs to be a real guitar, with good playability and inspiring tone. The M-120E is what most of us would call a "00" guitar. The upper bout measures 10-3/16" and the lower bout is 13-11/16". It's larger than a parlor body, and it delivers surprising natural acoustic projection. Guild chose solid mahogany for the top, back, and sides of the M-120E, giving it a deep and woody voice that's ideal for vocal accompaniment or standing out in a dense mix. When building an acoustic guitar, all solid wood construction remains the "Gold Standard"...laminates simply cannot compete. And being solid wood assures that even though this guitar sounds good right now, it will only "open up" and improve with each passing year.
Although less prevalent than the often seen spruce & rosewood combination, all-mahogany guitars are a great option in a number of situations. Singer-songwriters will appreciate the stronger emphasis that mahogany puts on each note's fundamental. Upper harmonics are kept in check, preventing the guitar from competing with the voice's register. This same quality makes the M-120E a great recording guitar. Savvy recording engineers will tell you that nothing sounds as "big" as a mahogany guitar that occupies its own sonic bandwidth.
The M-120E is more than your songwriting partner or recording secret weapon. Guild built this guitar for stage work by outfitting it with a Fishman active Sonitone system. The Sonitone's controls are mounted inside the soundhole, eliminating the need to cut a tone-sucking hole into the guitar's body. Fishman's undersaddle pickup captures the M-120E's warmer body tone and the immediacy of its attack. This proven system is clean, clear and very quiet. (Your soundman will thank you for your wise judgment.)
Included with this guitar is the correct Guild lightweight polyfoam case. Of course, it fits the guitar like a glove. This guitar was built with working musicians in mind, and anything less would simply not do.
This specific guitar is completely free of any scratches, dings or cosmetic blemishes. It has no player's wear at all and needed no refurbishing other than polishing some slightly sharp fret ends. This was done at our supplier and then it came directly to us where is was just given a complete "Post Factory" setup.
About Our Setup:
Although this guitar played “well enough to sell” when it arrived here at LightSpeed Music, I have just given it a full "post factory" setup. The truss rod was checked and adjusted. Then, the frets were leveled, crowned and polished. These first two steps allowed me to lower the saddle and nut a bit and improve the action, while still keeping the guitar free of fret buzz. The fretboard and bridge were conditioned and the nut slots were lubed and polished. The electronics were tested and given a protective application of contact cleaner and lube. Everything was snugged up and then it was polished. Lastly, it was given a fresh set of S.I.T. 80/20 Golden Bronze strings gauged .012" to .052".
