The Tanglewood TW73 Parlor Guitar is an outstanding vintage-styled "12 frets clear" acoustic guitar with uncompromising build quality and solid tonewoods in a professional package. The TW73 is built from solid A grade cedar top with a solid mahogany back. The beautiful, "soft V" mahogany neck is topped with a tightly grained rosewood fretboard. The tone of this small-bodied TW73 is delightfully resonant and balanced.

Since guitars are made of wood, the individual components used are critical. This is especially important in smaller bodied instruments. The solid cedar top on this example has exceptionally tight and straight grain, essential in producing a lightweight, and yet stiff soundboard. The solid back is beautifully ribboned and bookmatched mahogany, and looks great through the guitar's thin, satin finish. Please take note of the lack of a "scarf joint" where the neck meets the headstock, an upgrade normally seen on guitars costing much more. The TW73 also features a traditional diamond volute, adding strength to what is every guitar's weakest point. Also notice the rosewood fretboard's uniform coloring. It is completely free of the gray streaking and flecking that has become so commonplace.

This guitar's nut and saddle are genuine plastics used here. The saddle is fully compensated and the result is a guitar with excellent intonation in all registers. The 5-ply top binding and rosette are perfectly executed and an inspection of this guitar's interior reveals a tidy space, free of glue squeeze-out.

This guitar would be an excellent choice as a songwriter's instrument or anyone wanting a very articulate and precise sound. The combination of solid cedar and a solid mahogany back combine to produce a sound that is very articulate, woody, and surprisingly loud. "12 fret to the body" guitars always impress. Their construction requires moving the bridge a little further into the widest part of the lower bout, resulting in more string energy being transferred to the soundboard.
