Tanglewood just might be “the best name in guitars that you've never heard of”. Tanglewood was established in London in 1988, and their guitars are currently distributed in over 40 countries. They are one of the top-selling brands of acoustic guitars in the UK. LightSpeed Music has carried Tanglewood guitars since 2011 and our customers' response has been consistently very enthusiastic. Like many music enterprises, Tanglewood is run by musicians, not “business professionals”, and their focus has always been on building the best “real world” instruments possible. We invite you to go online and read the numerous product profiles and reviews. We think you'll find that guitarists agree...These really are “The best guitars you've never heard of”.

The TW40-P-D is a Parlor guitar built with the iconic designs of the 1930s firmly in mind. Being a parlor, the TW40-P-D has a very precise voice that responds well to the player's dynamics. But, owing to its solid nato top and scalloped X-bracing, this parlor presents authoritative mids that make it a great recording guitar. Nato has similar tonal properties to more traditional tone woods like mahogany, so many guitar manufacturers use nato in their construction. This guitar is a “12-fret to the body” style. Something wonderful happens when you move the neck/body joint those 2 frets. It necessitates shifting the bridge slightly, right to the top's “sweet spot”. The result is fuller bass, more volume and a broader sound. Sure, it's a parlor guitar, but try it in a “Drop D” tuning and prepare to be pleasantly surprised.

The mahogany neck is a soft “C” profile, and almost melts into your hand, so this guitar allows for long sessions without fatigue. The neck has a satin finish, so it doesn't get sticky and feels smooth as a baby's backside. The rosewood fretboard is deliciously dark and tastefully adorned with small dot inlays. A multi-ply rosette and multi-ply bindings complete this guitar's presentation.

The rosewood bridge is home to a fully compensated saddle Together with the sealed, die-cast tuners, this guitar's tuning is smooth, sure and precise. The action is optimized for fingerpicking and is comfortably low. Parlor guitars are enjoying a tremendous surge in popularity and for good reason. If you've been looking to add one to your collection, but don't have a king's ransom, this would be an excellent choice.
