Guild CE-100D Capri Maple Hollowbody Jazzbox Reissue w/ Bigsby & Guild Hard Case
Availability: In Stock
The Guild CE-100D Capri electric guitar is part of Guild's Newark St. Collection. These guitars are authentic reissues of classic Guild '50s and '60s designs. From the Bigsby tailpiece to its famous "Chesterfield" headstock inlay, the CE-100D remains faithful to the original mid-'60s Capri. The Capri's 3-1/8" deep body feels like an old friend, and the sharp Florentine cutaway makes accessing the highest frets effortless.
Like so many great jazzboxes, the Capri has a maple body. The maple keeps the Capri's hollowbody design from becoming too dark and gives the guitar's voice a bit more "pop". The Capri's range of tones is surprisingly versatile, with a pair of Guild's "Anti Hum" pickups, each with their own tone and volume controls to fine-tune your sound.
Multi-piece guitar necks are normally seen only on far more expensive instruments. Their construction makes them stiffer and more stable than single-piece necks and resistant to twisting and warping. Notice too the lack of a "scarf joint" where the neck meets the headstock. (Almost unheard of, especially for this price!)
The CE-100D Capri is powered by a pair of Guild "Anti Hum" pickups. These humbuckers are built to time-tested standards, with alnico magnets and individually adjustable pole pieces. The bridge is wound just a bit hotter, so balance between the pair is excellent. With the neck pickup soloed, the guitar has a classic jazz voice. Surprisingly, the bridge pickup has a bright solo voice, but retains the fullness of the hollow body construction. Played together, the "Anti-Hums" have a clean and balanced tone that covers a lot of sonic ground.
The appointments and build quality on the CE-100E Capri are uncompromised. The tuners are open-back Grover Sta-Tites, and they are smooth and sure. The Adjusto-Matic style bridge sits upon a floating rosewood base and the intonation is spot on throughout all registers. The Bigsby sounds like it should, and adds the appropriate wobble to arpeggios and sustained notes. The 3-piece neck's binding is cleanly applied with no finish bleed or unevenness where it meets the rosewood. The 20 frets are perfectly leveled, crowned and polished and the action is low and fast.
We all have seen the quality of Korean guitars skyrocket in the last few years. Fit and finish on this guitar rivals others costing in the thousands. Guild has been with us since Alfred Dronge started the company in 1952. Through several owners and factories, Guild never lost sight of what guitarists demand, great playing and sounding guitars.
Included with this guitar is the correct Guild hard case. This guitar was built with working musicians in mind, and anything less would simply not do.
As always, the pictures shown in the listing are of the actual instrument you will receive. Every piece of wood is unique, and you deserve to see exactly what you are buying. We know that buying musical gear online is hard, so we welcome any questions you have.
