Les Paul had so many achievements: inventor, guitarist, and hit recording artist and great storyteller. But Les is most beloved among musicians for inspiring the Les Paul Standard, one of the most sought-after guitars in the world. This Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top PRO gives the legend an update with coil-tapping, a flame maple veneer top, and a great Heritage Cherry Burst finish.

Epiphone’s history with legendary guitarist and innovator Les Paul dates back to the early 1940s when Les, working nights at the Epiphone factory on 14th Street in New York City, created one of the first solid body electric guitars, better known as “The Log.” Over the next 15 years, Les continued to develop his dream guitar that would “sustain for days” and in the late ’50s, the historic Gibson and Epiphone factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan produced the “sunburst” Les Paul Standard and its new pickup, the “PAF” humbucker.

The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plustop PRO features ProBucker™ pickups for that one-of-a-kind Les Paul sound. ProBucker™ pickups feature Alnico II magnets, the same magnets used in sought-after vintage PAF humbuckers. Alnico II magnets provide a rich, warm tone with a sparkling high end and a solid low end. The Les Paul Standard Plustop PRO features a ProBucker-2™ in the neck position and a ProBucker-3™ in the bridge position. The ProBucker-3™ is slightly overwound to provide balance with the neck pickup and a bit of edge for lead work. ProBuckers™ emulate the sound of original PAF pickups which were hand-wound. Both the neck and bridge pickups now also feature coil-splitting, controlled by a push/pull volume control, allowing players an infinite variety of pickup tones from single-coil bark to full humbucker bite.

When winding humbuckers, Epiphone utilizes a double vacuum waxing process that ensures quiet operation free from microphonic hum. The pickup is first placed in the specialized wax vacuuming system before the cover is placed on the unit to ensure that the wax fully penetrates to the very center of the pickup and solidifies all parts. After the cover is placed on, it is again given a second vacuum wax bath until the unit is completely saturated with wax. Epiphone uses only the highest quality parts for its pickups, such as ABS plastic bobbins, 1010 Cold Rolled Steel pole shoes and pole screws, Alnico magnets and the finest magnet wire available. Yeah, they sound that good...

Included with your guitar is a new Gator hard case. The GWE-LPS is constructed using ultra-durable plywood that is ready to stand up to years of use...and abuse. The black Tolex exterior covering creates a moisture-resistant, rugged home for your prized guitar and the ergonomic handle offers a comfortable grip, perfectly balancing the weight of your instrument. Inside, a thick plush lining keeps your guitar cushioned against impact and includes a spacious interior accessory compartment to organize your favorite guitar accessories while providing additional neck support. A quartet of chrome plated lockable latches secure the case and keep prying eyes at bay.

This specific guitar is 100% free of any player's wear or scratches and needed no refurbishing at all. It is discounted because the QC crew at Epi marked it a "2nd" due to a tiny imperfection in the binding. It is next to the pickguard, but impossible to see with a camera. In fact, most owners would never know it is there.

About Our Setup:
This guitar is very clean and played "well enough" when it arrived here at LightSpeed Music. Still, I have just given it a complete "post factory" setup. I checked and adjusted the truss rod. The frets have been leveled, crowned and polished. These first steps allowed me to lower the bridge and improve the action to better than factory spec. The rosewood fretboard was conditioned, the nut slots were lubed and the tuners have been tightened. The switch and pots got a protective application of contact cleaner and the electronics work perfectly. It was just strung with a fresh set S.I.T Power Wound of strings, gauged .010” to .046”. Finally, the intonation was set. It now plays better than most any new "Off the rack" Epi LP you'll find. It looks good, and sounds great.
