Epiphone "Inspired By 1964" Texan w/ Solid Mahogany, New Hard Case & Fresh Setup - Natural
Availability: In Stock
Condition: Seller Refurbished
Throughout their 61-year history, Epiphone has introduced models that have become classics in their own right. But when it comes to acoustic flattops, the Texan is Epi's most famous contribution. Introduced in 1959, the original Texan followed Gibson’s round-shoulder dreadnought body design and a 25-1/2" scale, making it more like Gibson’s Advanced Jumbo than the more common J-45. The reissue Epiphone "Inspired By 1964 Texan" acoustic-electric guitar is a tribute to their most iconic dreadnought.
This acoustic-electric guitar has a solid spruce top and solid mahogany back to a deliver full, rich tone. The guitar's 25-1/2" scale mahogany neck is secured with a glued-in dovetailed neck joint and is topped with a rosewood fretboard. Notice the lack of a cost-cutting “scarf joint” at the headstock...nearly unheard of at this price point.
This guitar's rosewood “reversed belly” bridge has a fully compensated saddle. It assures that intonation remains true throughout the guitar's entire range. The Shadow NanoFlex pickup and preamp system is clean, clear, and very quiet. The soundhole-mounted preamp avoids the need to make a tone-sucking hole in the guitar's shoulder.
Famously, the world's most played, heard and covered song ever, "Yesterday", was written and recorded using Sir Paul's Epiphone 64 Texan. In addition to McCartney, the Epiphone Texan has been used by a number of high-profile musicians including Peter Frampton, and Noel Gallagher.
This Inspired By 1964 Texan is a visually appealing guitar. The silver 'E' fitted to the big-block pickguard, the reverse bridge, the slope-shoulders and mother-of-pearl parallelogram fretboard inlays all give this guitar an air of class and familiarity. Seeing it for the first time gives the same feeling as meeting up with an old friend that you haven't seen for 20 years.
The Shadow preamp provides the engine for a Sonic NanoFlex undersaddle pickup. This preamp's controls include volume, bass and treble disc-rotaries, and the unit is mounted within the upper side of the soundhole. The preamp is powered by two 2032-type lithium batteries, and a useful LED battery indicator lights up 30 minutes before they are due to expire...nice.
The sound of the guitar is what you would expect from the combination of solid spruce and solid mahogany. It has a strong mid-range presence that allows single lines to present themselves well, even in a dense mix. The string-to-string articulation is excellent for fingerpicking and the soft-shoulder dreadnought body doesn't compress the sound when strummed aggressively.
Included with your guitar is a new Gator hard case. The black Tolex exterior covering creates a moisture-resistant, rugged home for your prized guitar and the ergonomic handle offers a comfortable grip, perfectly balancing the weight of your instrument. Inside, the plush lining keeps your guitar cushioned against impact and includes an interior accessory compartment to organize your favorite guitar accessories while providing additional neck support. A quartet of chrome plated latches secure the case and keep prying eyes at bay.
This guitar has no player's wear and is free of scratches, dings or blemishes. When it was inspected at our supplier, its only issue was a crack in the 7th fret's MOP inlay. Since it was completely stable, and their techs are expected to "process" a high number of guitars, it was left alone. But we feel you deserve better, so the inlay was leveled and then the fissure was filled with water-thin, tinted cyanoacrylate. After drying, it was scraped, sanded and then polished. Now, it can't be felt and is invisible unless your eye is 3" away!
About Our Setup:
Although this guitar played “well enough to sell” when it arrived here at LightSpeed Music, I have just given it a full "post factory" setup. The truss rod was checked and adjusted. Then, the frets were leveled, crowned and polished. These first two steps allowed me to lower the saddle and nut a bit and improve the action, while still keeping the guitar free of fret buzz. The fretboard and bridge were conditioned and the nut slots were lubed and polished. The electronics were tested and given a protective application of contact cleaner and lube. Everything was snugged up and then it was polished. Lastly, it was given a fresh set of S.I.T. 80/20 Golden Bronze strings gauged .012" to .052".
