Gold Tone GRE Thinline Roundneck Metal Body Acoustic-Electric Resonator Guitar w/ New Hard Case
Availability: In Stock
Gold Tone's Paul Beard Signature Series GRE thinline roundneck resonator guitar distinguishes itself from the crowd by offering a traditional 12-fret design, ideal for the best tone. The GRE was designed by the legendary Paul Beard with an all steel body and a biscuit-style cone configuration. But the GRE combines these traditional elements with a couple of modern twists as it is built with a thinner 2-1/8” body design and has a “lipstick” pickup for a more subtle acoustic tone that really shines when amplified. The GRE features traditional brushed nickel plating and the mahogany neck's C” profile feels more “electric” than traditional resonators. The GRE's magnetic lipstick pickup does an excellent job of capturing the true resonator sound when you desire a crystal clean glassy tone but things really get fun when you drive the signal for a pushed blues rock sound. Auditioned through a 1965 Bassman and Tube Screamer was a total blast! The volume and tone controls make it easy to access a variety of available tones and this guitar will absolutely scream if you want it to.
The acoustical physics of resonator guitars differ from those of a standard guitar. The resonator's body vibrates less and acts more like a loudspeaker enclosure, directing and shaping the vibrations from the resonator cone. The cone should be as thin as possible to produce maximum volume and tone, without collapsing from string tension. Beard cones are hand-spun in Maryland using the original Dopyera brothers' lathe.
The GRE was reviewed in Frets Magazine and was recommended as the steel body guitar to own in its price range. Like all Gold Tone instruments, it is professionally setup at the Gold Tone shop for optimum playability ideal for conventional playing or bottleneck slide playing. The coverplate also features an easily removable palm rest for quick and easy saddle adjustments.
One note...Gold Tone equips the GRE with phosphor bronze strings, which optimizes its acoustic tonal quality. If you're going to be using it primarily as an electric, you might consider trying a set of steel strings. Steel has a stronger magnetic field and will generate a little more output, but as always, you are encouraged to “season to taste”.
Workmanship on this guitar is very good. The fretwork is excellent with no sharp ends and everything is crowned and polished to perfection. The inlays are properly seated and there is no trace of any filler. The fretboard is deliciously dark rosewood and completely free of any of the gray streaking that is becoming so common. The neck and headstock have classy and understated curly maple binding and the truss rod cover plate is also in brushed nickel. Yeah, this guitar looks good.
Included with your guitar is a new Gator Hard Case.
The GWE-Classic is constructed using ultra-durable plywood that is ready to stand up to years of use...and abuse. The black Tolex exterior covering creates a moisture-resistant, rugged home for your prized guitar and the ergonomic handle offers a comfortable grip, perfectly balancing the weight of your instrument. Inside, a thick plush lining keeps your guitar cushioned against impact and includes a spacious interior accessory compartment to organize your favorite guitar accessories, while providing additional neck support. A trio of chrome plated lockable latches secure the case and keep prying eyes at bay.
