Fender Concert Tone F63S "F" Style Mandolin w/ Solid Flame Maple & Solid Spruce
Availability: Out Of Stock
Condition: Manufacturer Refurbished
This Concert Tone F63S mandolin features familiar vintage "F-style" aesthetics, great sound and upgraded features to make a mandolin you won't want to put down. The F63S mandolin was designed from the ground up for rich complex voice that can only be achieved with the use of all solid tonewoods throughout. Laminates simply cannot compete! This lovely instrument uses a graduated solid spruce top for balanced tone and is nicely appointed with ornate mother-of-pearl and abalone inlays, aged body bindings and an engraved tailpiece.
The Concert Tone F63S "F"-Style mandolin uses asymmetrical tone bars, designed to deliver more projection and complex tone than ever before. It looks appropriately authentic with a classic Vintage Sunburst finish and boasts time-honored features reminiscent of the best 1920s era Concert Tone instruments.
The F63S is quite eye catching with its solid flame maple back and sides. The solid spruce top has tight and straight grain and the one-piece bound "V"-shape maple neck is very comfortable. The list goes on with a "Concert Tone" headstock, rosewood fretboard, genuine bone nut, compensated rosewood bridge, body binding, and nickel-plated hardware.
Fender's “Street” price on this mandolin is $699.00. That's a good deal for a mandolin of this quality. This one needed no refurbishing, has no player's wear, and is discounted only because of an area of minor finish flaws which can be seen in the final closeup.
Of course, a new one won't have the extra attention that this has received. I have given this mandolin a "Post Factory" setup. The truss rod was checked and adjusted. Then, the frets were leveled crowned and polished. This let me lower the bridge a bit and still keep it buzz free. Speaking of the bridge, the rosewood, bridge's base did not fit perfectly against the spruce top...not uncommon. So I reshaped bridge's the feet so they make better contact with the spruce top. The result was an audible increase in volume and projection. I conditioned the fretboard, lubed and tightened the tuners and gave it a good buffing. Lastly, it received a fresh set of S.I.T. Phosphor Bronze strings.
